Metronomic therapy for malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor in NF1.

Chaudhary N and Borker A. from the Pediatric Hematology Oncology Unit, Department of Pediatrics, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal University, Manipal, Karnataka have just reported in Pediatric Blood and Cancer about the successfull use of metronomic chemotherapy for the treatment of a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor in a patient with NF1. While standard treatments such as surgery, MTD chemotherapy or radiotherapy did not bring any response. Metronomic chemotherapy lead to a complete response. Interestingly, the initial intend of the metronomic treatment was palliative only, but the patient is alive and in CR 20 month after initiation of the metronmic treatment.
