Update about the pediatric palliative and metronomic program in Dominican Republic

We are happy to share with you the data that Wendy Gómez García has gathered about her metronomic experience as a part of a Palliative Care Pilot Program and Metronomic Therapy being lead at the Dr. Robert Reid Cabral Children’s Hospital in Dominican Republic

The metronomic protocol was a 3 drugs protocol with:
- Ibuprofen 20 mg/Kg/day for 42 days
- Cyclophosfamide 25 mg/m2/day for 21 days (3 weeks)
- Methotrexate 15 mg/m2/weekly (7.5 mg/m2 twice a week) from day 21 to 42 (3 weeks) *(no rest interval between one and another cycle)

So far, metronomic therapy has been given to 29/37 patients who have been enrolled in the program.

Patients suffered from the following underlying disease : Lymphoblastic lymphoma, Neuroblastoma, AML, Hodgkin Lymphoma, PNET, Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma, RMS, Colon Cancer and ALL. 8 (27%) patients received the metronomic protocol for 6 months or more. Although, no complete remission were obtained, partial remissions were obtained in 12 patients and stable disease 17 patients.

You can read more details about the metronomic results but also about the pediatric oncology unit of the Dr. Robert Reid Cabral Children’s Hospital in Dominican Republic and the palliative program in the attached power point file that has been kindly provided by Dr Gomez-Garcia.

This all oral based on generic drug regimen can be very usefull for many patients with relapsing cancer in many countries.
